Some exciting news...
We have now relocated our shop to the picturesque Pennine village of Marsden, West Yorkshire in order to concentrate even more on our specialism in footwear fitting and providing advice on lower limb health care for walkers, runners, skiers and mountaineers.
We realise that some customers will find the move to our new location inconvenient but the hope is that most will benefit from the free car parking, fantastic amenities and access to stunning countryside.
In any case, we have had to take the difficult decision to leave Oldham, our home for over 36 years, because of the rapidly diminishing footfall due in no small part to the Metrolink development work.
Our new premises in Marsden are in a charming little mill building we have renovated and are easily accessible by both road, rail and bus (and canal boat!) – AND, we're happy to deliver to existing customers in Oldham who can just ring us up to buy product if they like.
Si, Marcus, Jane and Phil have all been involved in the move, along with help from some amazing friends and family. Particular thanks needs to go to Richard and Adele Tayles and also to Will Evans who have all worked incredibly hard with Si on the building work to refurbish what was rather a run down building. For photos showing the build from start to finish, here's a link to a Facebook album – you don't need a Facebook account to view them.
We've maintained all of our accounts with clothing and equipment manufacturers and although the day to day stock holding is now mainly footwear and ancillary items, we will be able to supply most of your outdoor needs to order.
For those that won't be happy with our departure from Oldham town centre we'd say this. We have for the last three years of recession survived only by careful management and development of our footwear fitting expertise that customers now travel to us for. It's simply not sustainable to remain in Oldham any longer as people appear to be staying away from the town until the infrastructure improves. Having said that, it wouldn't be fair not to point out that the council leadership are aware of the problems that have affected trade and are now making strenuous efforts to ease things although way too late in our opinion. So we'd urge you where possible to get behind the town and give its small retailers the support they so desperately need...
And finally, we intend to have all our footwear available online soon along with a very special offering – our online footwear appraisal service which will take a lot of the guesswork out of buying footwear on the internet.
Hope you'll agree that we've been thinking on our feet and refusing to let Mountainfeet suffer the sad fate of many other specialist independent shops up and down the land. Please stay with us and visit us in our lovely new building in Marsden – after all, we've got nothing without you!
Best regards,
Si, Marcus, Phil and Jane
