To get a daily fix of exercise and outdoor recreation, it's not always necessary to travel a long distance. Our local area enjoys proximity to spectacular hills and moorland which provide fantastic walking, climbing and cycling opportunities without spending time and money driving a long distance. Even those of us living in the more urban areas of the Borough have easy access to a variety of green, open spaces that provide great recreational and fitness possibilities.
Oldham has some 14,805 Hectares of managed parkland which are maintained by Oldham Council's Parks & Countryside Service. Click on the map above to be taken to their website which gives full details of all the locations shown.
Oldham Countryside Service is headquartered at Strinesdale and includes a staff of experienced Countryside Rangers who are happy to provide information on Oldham's many outdoor amenities.
OCS also runs all sorts of activities such as guided walks, craft activities and conservation tasks in addition to producing publications such as the Oldham Way guides pictured below.
