Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme
We take a great interest in the development of young active folk who are being introduced to the outdoors through involvement in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme.
Launched in 1956, The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme is aimed at young people between 15 and 25, able-bodied or disabled. The three Award levels, Bronze, Silver and Gold, include four sections: service, expeditions, skills and physical recreation. It is mainly the expedition section of the award that we are involved with although full details of the Scheme as a whole can be obtained from the official website link above.
This challenging programme demonstrates The Prince's keen interest in and support for the personal development of young people. More than four million people in over sixty countries have taken part since its inception in 1956. He has been the scheme's patron since its beginning, and devotes much time to presenting Gold awards and meeting both participants and helpers, in the UK and overseas.
We have traditionally supplied clothing and equipment to participants and to assist parents and students alike we offer a 10% discount on what are already keen prices.
We are also happy to liase with local schools and organisations to provide appropiate equipment via 'open' evenings at either schools or here at the shop. Group equipment requirements can also be met and advice given where needed. Discount on group purchases will be awarded based on the merit of each individual order.
Marcus Buckley acts as coordinator between the shop and Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme organisers who are running activities. He has first hand experience of the Scheme as a participant and can be contacted by email at marcus@mountainfeet.co.uk |
